We also added a newly tested recommendation from Airthings, as well as the latest buying advice for gas leak detectors. Either way, I hope they give us some answers soon because I have been losing sleep over this, the last week.We updated this guide in January 2023 to e nsure all of our picks, vetted by the GH Institute, were in stock and correctly priced. Our top floor room plunge pool was also heated (and I’m pretty sure all the rooms on the top floor of these buildings close to Kahal had the same feature) so idk if that could be linked, if the heaters were nearby or located somewhere close to the room and had poor venting. I don’t know if that would of caused it but seems something worth considering if it’s true they were in the room / building right in front of the pool (also mixed with all the fire features of Kahal that other guests complained of gas smells). When we got to the hotel, I was told the pool wasn’t open due to it taking several days to be heated only to find out from the staff, that it was in fact heated that day (the day before the incident). When we decided on Rancho, I was very excited about the opened of Kahal and the infinity pool to find out days before we arrived that the pool wasn’t going to be open (in which they did upgrade us to the Milagro suite with our own plunge pool on the top floor). After reading the news, I did a bunch of research into carbon monoxide poisonings at hotels and found that a lot of the ones in the US over the years had to do with faulty pool heaters. I have been racking my brain to figure out what happened and have been pretty sick to my stomach all week as this easily could have been us. I read they were in 201 (but the report could have been wrong and 210 as reported here) so they were very closeby to us. Sadly we saw the couple multiple times that day - once at the pool (they only stayed briefly) and also outside of our room when we went to take a sunset picture. My husband and I were staying at the hotel at the same time. Since the room was costing $1800 per night, I asked for a discount because my last two days and a night were horrible, and they credited me the burrito I ate which I technically didn't eat. I had the breakfast burrito, and within an hour or two it was going to the bathroom and throwing up for the next 12 hours. NOTE: They tell you its ok to drink the water, but its not. The concept is intriguing, but falls short in almost every way. It underwhelms from the beginning you enter the big wooden door. If you have stayed at 5 star resorts in Cabo before you will be very disappointed here. Los Angeles, California 1 contribution 27 helpful votes Reviewer also reports paying $1800/nt (I assume inclusive of taxes/fees), which would seem to be one of the higher categories, perhaps the oceanfront villa, which has the fire pit. He reports being ill for two days and a night, with vomiting/diarrhea for 12 hours. Reviewer posted on 6/12, just a few days prior to the American couple's passing, but looks like the stay was in May. What is interesting, is of two recent poor TA reviews, one reviewer notes that he thought he experienced food poisoning- experienced vomiting and diarrhea. At the Bahamas Sandals CO poisoning in 2022, of the two couples poisoned, it seems one couple sought medical treatment prior to their passing. Returns to accommodation and doesn't survive the subsequent CO poisoning. Guest goes to the hospital/medical facility and gets treatment for what could be food poisoning, flu, etc and feels better-ish. Unfortunately there is little reason for an urgent care to consider that diagnosis given how non-specific the symptoms can be initially.Yes, sadly it seems that is often the situation. Thinking about it more, I suspect that when the couple went to the hospital for supposed food poisoning a few days before, they were actually experiencing carbon monoxide poisoning at that time.
